As you know, technology is always evolving, and that includes some amazing advancements in restoration dentistry! New equipment and devices help diagnose dental problems earlier than ever before, allowing us to treat problems sooner and with less invasive techniques and dental solutions. At Austin Family Dentistry, we offer the latest in comfortable, convenient dentistry with our CEREC® tooth restoration system.
Still unsure about what it is and how it can benefit you? No worries, we’ve put together a list of four things you should know about CEREC®.
1. CEREC® is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics.
This means that we can economically restore damaged teeth or treat tooth erosion in a single appointment using a high-quality ceramic material that matches the natural color of your other teeth right in our office.
2. This technology uses tooth-colored material so your teeth won’t be discolored by silver fillings.
The filling is natural-looking, biocompatible (meaning that it won't harm living tissue), anti-abrasive, and plaque-resistant.
3. It conveniently fits your schedule, as the entire restoration process, in most cases, takes an hour.
We use a special camera to take an accurate picture of the damaged tooth. This optical impression is then transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where we use CAD (Computer Aided Design) technology to design your custom restoration. Then, CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) takes over and automatically creates the restoration while the patient waits. Finally, the doctor bonds the new restoration to the surface of the old tooth, all in under an hour.
4. No follow-up visits!
Because Austin Family Dentistry no longer needs to create temporaries or take impressions and send them to a lab, the traditional second visit has now been eliminated! We can complete a color-matched ceramic tooth restoration – filling, crown, or veneer – in a single visit.
How can you find out if CEREC® is an option for you?
